Peter Koshland, Pharm.D joins us today to discuss the Compounding Pharmacy – A Unique Approach for Unique Patients. A compounding pharmacy tailors options to the individual patient when a commercial drug isn’t working by making customized prescription medications from scratch. For example, they can make a dosage that doesn’t commercially exist, or include a discontinued drug (when it’s still available in bulk active ingredients). These pharmacies connect with physicians so they can be used as a resource to help them figure out what the patient might need if something isn’t working. Their medications are considered affordable as they are able to cut out some of the distribution process. Listen to learn more about compounding pharmacies and what they can provide for patients as well as the obstacles they face.
